And be steadfast in prayer and regular in charity: and whatever good ye send forth for your souls before you ye shall find it with Allah; for Allah sees well all that ye do. – Surah Al-Baqarah [2:110] – Al-Qur’an al-Kareem

The story begins with a group of teens who for the first time are taken away from their homes for an entire week-long camping trip. The group arrives at the site and realizes there is absolutely nothing close to civilization around them. They begin to set up camp; clearing the area to put up the tents, an area for the kitchen and finally the least desired activity to build an outhouse. The week progresses and the group realize the power of teamwork and friendship. After this week-long trip the group returns home and many years pass by, however one thing remains the same; their friendship.

Teamwork, friendship, belonging, and personal development are life skills that affect all areas of a person’s life.

We seek your assistance in providing quality programming based on Scouts Canada’s National Canadian Path program, incorporated with Islamic values and teachings. The 392nd Thornhill Muslim Scout group caters to youth ranging from 5 – 18 years of age. Quality program development and execution is essential to meet the specific goals and requirements in each of the age categories.

Currently as a group we provide the following in the course of a calendar year. The Troop Scout Section (11-14 years) and Cub Pack Section (8-10 years) are provided with 3-4 camping experiences each year. A Fall, Winter and Spring camp are core to our program, in addition the Troop is given the opportunity to attend a week-long camp up in the Halliburton area, to experience living in the Canadian wilderness. For our younger youth, the Beaver Scouts (5-7 years), we provide 1-2 overnight camping experiences per calendar year. This gives them an opportunity to spend a minimum of one night away from home and develop into confident and independent youths.

In addition to regular camping, the Group facilitates adventures based on requirements for the different sections. Examples of physical activity adventures include hiking, canoeing, kayaking, skating, arts & crafts, participating in local Scouting activities and competitions, and more. The Group attends local community events, visits Police/Fire departments, as well as volunteers during Mosque programs at the various
Islamic Shia Ithna-Asheri Jamaat of Toronto centres.

In order for the programming to work well there is a significant financial undertaking required. The annual budget for the group sits at approximately $15,000; this caters to the seasonal camps, monthly activities, registration subsidies, leadership training and equipment purchases and maintenance.

We seek your continued support in helping us provide valuable programs, so as to develop the Youth of today, into the Leaders of tomorrow.

Any amount of monetary donation is appreciated and does not go unnoticed. If you wish to make a donation with a value of your choice, please do so via the Scouts Canada Designated Donation Page. Donations of $20 of more are eligible for a tax receipt from Scouts Canada.
